Take a Look!

Hi Everyone! Today I want you to see my classroom and how I set my room up for the school year. Some items are going to change as the year continues. Normally, I would use a variety of colors and borders but this year I went with a polka dot theme. The main colors are pink, black, white, and blue. I went with this theme because I used pink polka dots when I threw my baby shower in 2014 and just fell in love with polka dots. To make the polka dots pop out, I use black or white bulletin board paper. As you walk in my room, the door has been covered with black and white polka dot fabric. I had to use a staple gun to attach the fabric to the door. I also have a welcome sign that I brought from Primarily Speaking by Aimee. It was included in a decor pack that can be found here:  http://tinyurl.com/ja64sw2 .

I created a parent information board right by the door. This will give parents information that is happening in the classroom and in the school as soon as they walk into the classroom. I used pink polka dot fabric from Joann’s and hot glued it to the wall. All of this fabric is leftover from my baby shower and my daughter’s first birthday party. The letters are from Teacher Created Resources.

After the parent board, you have the turn in baskets. These are crates that I bought early last year from either the Family Dollar or Walmart. I used these baskets for turning in work. The students put their work in their folders at the end of class and retrieve it the next day. Above the crates, I painted a wood sign with black paint and used foam letters to create a no name board. The pink clothespins are leftover from the baby shower. Those were painted pink to play the don’t say baby game! As you can tell, I made sure to reuse majority of the things that were bought for my baby shower.

My desk has been covered with the remaining pink fabric and attached using hot glue. I still haven’t added my name to the desk but it is coming soon (I hope!). I brought this storage box from Kmart for about $13 and spray painted it pink using Krylon Spray Paint. The spray cost about $2. Behind my desk, I reused an old white plastic storage drawer to hold papers that I may need throughout the week.

My small group area consists of the normal U-shaped table. I decided to go with seat crates this year to match my theme and thought they were too cute not to do and use in my classroom. I used black and pink crates to mix it up a little bit. I had some dry erase laminate paper that I attached to the chalkboard to write on because I do not like using chalk.
Next to my small group area, are two blue plastic storage containers that I use to store materials for my early finishers. I spray painted them blue to match the color scheme. I had a poster made that identify all of the different activities that students can do when they are finished their work and it was printed on orange paper. I am very obsessive about things and do not like that orange paper in my room so I will have that redone once we get more paper. I place library books in baskets that the students can read at their leisure.

I found some plastic baskets at the Family Dollar store that matches my colors perfectly. I am utilizing these baskets for my math stations. Each station is numbered so the students know what station they are currently working on. I lined the baskets with fabric to help with the stations that use dice.

Concept Wall- I brought vocabulary cards from Teaching and Tapas and I hang them up at the top of the wall and display the ones I am using under them for the students to refer back to them.
I also created a “BE” board for inspiration and a math practices board. The math practices signs are from teachers pay teachers but I can not remember which store. I will update when I find the link.

I have my focus wall that includes my standards, my objectives, vocabulary, essential questions, and date. The banner is from the welcome pack that I bought from Primarily Speaking by Aimee. The standards are from Jason’s Online Classroom on TPT.

Thank you for stopping by!

Welcome to Summing it Up

Hi Everyone!
Welcome to my blog.. Summing it Up! After reading so many other great blogs, I have decided to get started with my very own blog. This is going to be a fun adventure, so follow along with me as I open the doors to my classroom and everything math related.
I have been teaching for 7 years. I have taught students with Emotional Disorders, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade. I am currently teaching 3rd grade math in Maryland Public Schools.
I look forward to making new blogging and teacher friends through this outlet.
